Columbus, Ohio November 12, 2012 Texas transplant Long Tall Deb Landolt will celebrate the release of her new CD Raise Your Hands with a slew of special guests to include Shaun Booker, Colin John, Nikki Scott, Pete Linzell, Richey B, John Popovich, Melvin Powe, Jan Roll and Jimmy Castoe as she brings her own brand of “soul, gospel and swamp” to the Woodlands Tavern Saturday, December 8. Soul and blues shredders Johnny Mack and the Heavyweights will open the show.
Raise Your Hands evolved from a series of impromptu writing sessions, affectionately referred to as the Wednesday Night Music Club (so as not to infringe on Sheryl Crow’s Tuesday Night version), that began in the fall of 2011. Landolt, Popovich and Powe would gather with new song ideas and jam on themes and variations. Often in between his international tour dates, Columbus stalwart Sean Carney would join the fun.
The result features striking arrangements on ten of their collaborative efforts further refined by the talents of Nashville Producer Dave Clo. Two tasty covers, Tom Waits’ “New Coat of Paint” and Ian Moore’s “Muddy Jesus” round out the disc.
To complement the deep textures of the music, it made sense to build an outstanding ensemble cast to deliver the goods. Landolt and Executive Producer Mark Puskarich enlisted the help of veteran Blues artists Jimmy Thackery and Reese Wynans (organist with Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble), Big LLou, John, Booker, Scott, Powe, Popovich, Roll and members of the Grammy-winning Roomful of Blues, as well as rising stars Carney, Damon Fowler, JP Soars, Bart Walker, Matt O’Ree and Victor Wainwright. Their efforts have combined to produce a full-bodied work, rich in dynamics and mood.
Ms. Landolt’s first album with the Drifter Kings, Diamonds on the Desert Floor, was nominated by the Blues Foundation of Memphis, Tennessee as a top 5 finalist in the Best Self-Produced CD Category at the 2011 International Blues Challenge. It also was featured as a winner of Blues Revue Magazine’s “Sponsor the Bands Contest” in the May/June 2011 issue.
This event is the first in a series leading up to a national release in early 2013.
